Is the Red Wings finally playing at a high level after winning six straight games and seeing their scoring come to life for the most part?
The Red Wings suffered one of the league’s most dismal seasons because they were unable to get anything going when they controlled the puck for almost six months. On January 11th, the Wings have finally shown life when they possessed the puck and have won six games in a row.
Is the Wings still trailing the majority of the league, or have they finally been transformed into the high-octane squad that their lineup represents? Since I had that question in mind, I decided to research it and learn more about what was happening in Hockeytown.
Below, you’ll find my results and, well, I wouldn’t say the Wings are out of the woods yet. But they were also so bad with the puck throughout the last stages of the Derek Lalonde era that there was a lot of ground to make up.
Red Wings still aren’t that high-octane team offensively, but…
The list shows you that the Wings still have a lot of catching up to do. But, they rank a lot higher than they did, clocking in at 24th overall. Not a bad number, considering the fact they hung around the lower 20s throughout the season’s first half.

The Red Wings are 6-1-0 since the start of the Todd McLellan era. They have scored 27 goals in that time frame, or about four goals per game. Therefore, your Red Wings are finally heading north, even though they still need to maintain that consistency and prove to fans that these seven games weren’t an anomaly.
This is the crucial time for Todd McLellan and company since opponents will begin to notice his style and learn a few tips on how to counter it. This new-look Wings club has an obligation to continually upping the ante on their opponents, keep them off their game, and maintain their new, explosive presence.
