At the 2025 Pro Bowl Games, the Panthers will have two Pro Bowlers: guard Robert Hunt and cornerback Jaycee Horn. Hunt was selected to the squad to take the place of Eagles guard Landon Dickerson, who will be training for the Super Bowl.
The 28-year-old guard, who joined the team as a free agent in March of last year, immediately assimilated into the new team’s culture as they developed a potent running game and significantly enhanced pass protection.
Before suffering a knee injury that prevented him from playing in the regular season finale, he participated in every offensive snap of the first 16 games. He was called for holding once, gave up a 6.8 quarterback pressure percentage, and only gave up 2.5 sacks overall this season.
He made a joke at the end of the previous season that he was moving up the ranks as a second alternate this season after finishing as a fifth alternate in his last season with the Dolphins. “I cannot claim that was overlooked. Hunt remarked, “I just know I can be better.”
“I got closer this year because I was an alternate last year. I was an alternate closer. I might kick down the door next year. I’m going to try my hardest to kick the door down during this offseason.”
The Panthers, who had him in the center of a reconstructed offensive interior, went from allowing 65 sacks in 2023 to 36 last season, which helped pave the way for running back Chuba Hubbard to record career-highs of 1,195 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Additionally, he did it in a particular way because some of the “disrespectful” blocks he made, such as kicking a man out of the club during a screen pass against the Raiders, helped the Panthers develop a particular mentality. Players like Ikem Ekwonu swiftly joined in the linemen’s competition to make their presence known as Hunt would blow someone up.
When they watched that movie, Hunt remarked, “It boosted it up, man,” referring to the atmosphere in the room. “You won’t get more than me, so we go out there like yo.” I’m knocking people out more than you are, like bodies. I’m going to challenge Ickey this week because I witnessed him doing that.
Hey, show them what you’ve got if you want to continue doing it. I’m going to try to beat you. . . . “So it’s not a competition thing. It’s just like, hey, let’s do it. And then once somebody gets the tone set, somebody follows.”
Since 2021, when Brian Burns and Stephon Gilmore were present, the Panthers have not had two Pro Bowlers. Last year, Derrick Brown was the only one to make the trip.
