Fabrizio Romano says Lloyd Kelly could be on the move this month as Italian club come in with bid.
This week, Lloyd Kelly was linked to a move from Newcastle United to Fenerbahce, a Turkish team, but the Magpies reportedly weren’t interested in the offer.
The club believed that Fenerbahce’s offer was significantly less than their assessment of Kelly, despite the fact that Kelly joined Newcastle on a free transfer in the summer and is currently earning an absurdly high salary.
As we have stated, there is clearly much more involved in transfers than we laypeople think because it seems obvious to us to pay any amount for a player who cost us nothing to acquire and is simply draining the budget with his high salary.
Luckily, after rebuffing Fenerbahce, reports are now saying that Juventus have come in with a higher offer for the former Bournemouth man.
Rumours started swirling late on Sunday morning before Fabrizio Romano chimed in on X, confirming Juventus’ interest.
“Juventus have asked for Lloyd Kelly as new centre back with verbal bid rejected by Newcastle for loan with buy option clause. Juventus remain interested after #NUFC rejected €13m proposal from Fenerbahçe this week; Juve now hope to advance for fee around €15m. Deal on” Fabrizio Romano Twitter on x.
Juventus’ verbal loan-to-buy offer for Lloyd Kelly was turned down by Newcastle.
Juventus hopes to tempt Newcastle into talks with an improved offer.
Newcastle will not be bullied into selling any player for less than their valuation, and they have already turned down Juventus, but Romano appears to believe there is still life in this one. A bid of £12.5 million, which is higher than Fenerbahce’s rumoured bid of £10 million, may persuade Newcastle to negotiate.
Given Newcastle’s PSR issues, a quick profit flip would be a wise decision. I understand I was complaining about a lack of squad depth after we were thrashed by Bournemouth, but Kelly has barely made an impact since his arrival, so would we really miss him in any way other than numbers? I do not think so. Sell!
