Evenepoel Dominates Final Time Trial at Tour de Romandie, While Almeida Claims Overall Victory

Remco Evenepoel boosted his morale by winning the final time trial of the Tour de Romandie in commanding fashion, finishing over ten seconds ahead of João Almeida. Despite Evenepoel’s impressive performance, it was Almeida of UAE Team Emirates – XRG who secured the overall title.

Ahead of Evenepoel’s ride, several contenders attempted to set the benchmark. Johan Price-Pejtersen of Alpecin-Deceuninck was the first to post a leading time, demonstrating strong time-trial form. Not even home favorite Stefan Küng could surpass him, missing out by just one second.

Alberto Bettiol of XDS Astana then raised the bar, becoming the first to average over 49 km/h on the demanding Geneva course.

Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), looking to rebound from a tough queen stage the day before, set off with determination. He immediately gained a ten-second advantage over Bettiol at the first time check and held that pace to finish in a blistering 20:33.22, securing the fastest time of the day.

Although Almeida delivered a strong performance in his own right, he couldn’t match Evenepoel’s speed. However, his consistency paid off — he overcame a slim three-second deficit to Lenny Martinez (Bahrain-Victorious) to take the overall win.

Martinez gave his all but couldn’t fend off Almeida’s challenge. With that, Almeida clinched the 2025 Tour de Romandie title. Meanwhile, Evenepoel’s dominant time trial lifted him to fifth in the general standings, giving him a boost of confidence as he sets his sights on the Tour de France.
